Happy Birthday to Brenda aka Mom. I hope you had a birthday that made you feel special. Hopefully you got to relax a little! Can’t wait until we visit with you again!! We all miss you and love you!!!!
It’s been four amazing years that you have been in my life. You make me feel so much love inside. You have inspired me to better myself. You are my amazing little girl and I love you sooooo much. Happy birthday Madi.
Well, it’s that time of year when it’s just too hot for long hair. Ever since the girls watched the movie “tangled”, they have wanted their hair like rapunzle. Madilynn and Aubrey were both so excited to get their hair cut. They did so good too. I was happy to see them having fun and sitting very still. Yay! Both of them had such a great final result. They look so adorable!!! I might just keep the hair this length year round…..we’ll see!
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At the Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length.
Keiser Nursing Students put a team together, and I was so proud to be a part of it. The Relay represents what a cancer patient goes through. It starts out at 6pm and the first lap around the track is all the survivors. The second lap is the survivors and their caregivers. Then the teams emerged on the track. After dark, we honor people who have been touched by cancer and remember loved ones lost to the disease during the Luminaria Ceremony. Candles are lit inside bags filled with sand, each one bearing the name of a person touched by cancer, and participants often walk a lap in silence. This was an emotional experience.
Throughout the Relay, there were tents lining the track selling all kinds of things to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Our tent was selling strawberry shortcakes. There were all kinds of events happening throughout the night to keep people motivated. After 10pm, there was a huge Zumba class. I did a little, but mostly stood back and took pictures….lol. It was a great time and one that I will be participating in again. I encourage everyone out there to do the same!
For those of you who don’t know, I play on a pool team once a week. I have been playing pool (billiards) for about 14 years now, and am happy to say that I’m not too bad at it. The team I am on currently just won 1st place for the session and was entered in to a county-wide tournament. We played the first half of the tourney and won our spot into the second half. The second part of the tourney is in June. If we win that one, then we win a trip to Las Vegas to play in the National competition. Over my 14 years I have made it to Las Vegas 4 times with 3 different teams. I’m hoping this team can go all the way!!!!
The picture without the team shirts was taken when we won 1st place for the 4 months session. The pictures with the red team shirts were taken at the first county tournament. Stay tuned for the next update….hopefully we will be vegas bound!!!
HAPPY CINCO DE MAYO EVERYONE!!!!
Any excuse to have margaritas and a pinata party, we do it!!! Katie, Al, and Thalia came over for a taco bar, cervesa, and pinata fun. Anna, a friend from school, brought over Halle, Madilynn’s new friend. All the kids had a blast, especially when princess candy fell out of the pinata!!!!
We had an Easter egg coloring party along with an Easter egg hunt. The girls had fun making crazy eggs and then searching for them in the backyard. After all the coloring the girls were a little hungry and decided to eat some of the hard-boiled eggs. Luckily Katie cooked her eggs long enough so the girls could eat some. I, on the other hand, was misinformed on the length of boiling an egg should receive. I thought you were supposed to boil them for 3 minutes. I was way off. (I obviously do not cook very often) At least I know now for next year.
Here are the latest school pictures for Madilynn and Aubrey. It crazy to see the differences in the 6 months since the last set of photos!!! They are getting so big!
Lake Eola is a beautiful lake in the middle of downtown Orlando, FL. It has a walkway around the entire lake and also a very nice playground for the kids. There are swan paddle boats you can rent and paddle around the lake. This particular weekend there was an art festival. We had fun looking at all the interesting things for sale. There were these cute little rocking chairs that I wanted…..maybe next year. There was lots of food, music, and an awesome “kid zone”. Madilynn and Thalia both got into this giant hamster ball and walked around in it….pretty cool ! All the girls fed the ducks and swans that lay around the lake. It was really neat to see how close they were getting. The swans seem to be used to all the people and bread!
